I hate them, I don't mind the principle of them, I understand why they exist. But I can never read the bloomin' things!

I cant either.
I have to refresh them so many times before I can find ones I can read both of them.
I dont know why they cant be written a bit clearer.0 -
there are a few sites out there that make quite amusing cartoons out of capcha's..0

I have an email address that I cannot get into as I have forgotten the password or not used it for a time, I don't know which, but I can't get into it because no matter what I think the captcha is I can never get it correct.0

Screencap, upload to free pic host site, get other people to decrypt the words for you (blank out anything that identifies the email address)

Captchas frustrate me, rarely can I read them. Although my biggest bugbear would have to be registration sites that insist you have a password the way THEY want it, either "enter more letters" or "include so many numbers within the letters", a password is meant to be unique to the user, so why this sudden need for us to change a password to something more in tune with their site is baffling.
It reminds me of a time (about 20 years ago), when the bank insisted I change my signature (something that was strictly unique to me), as it originally started with the initials R.A. as it had been since I signed my name, all of a sudden I had to change it to omit the "A" in my name. having to re-create my signature to satisfy a bank infuriated me.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

I never really have problem with Captchas. Re-capcha is fun, though, because you can trick it. It uses 2 words, because it knows what one of the words is, but not the other, and it's a project that's being used to help computers learn tough words for archiving old books (you can find more info on the re-capcha site).
As it only knows ONE of the words, you have free reign to put what you want for that one. usually it knows the shortest word but not the longer word.0 -

I did not know that. I hope they test the same word on multiple users or there will be lots of gobbledegook book translations.
Here is more information for those wanting to try it:
