can't find cheap insurance for new people carrier

Hi,
as my family has increased so that there are 7 of us now, i have found a friend that is selling their Ford Galaxy P reg.
My existing car insurance for my mondeo runs out in october, but going on confused.com, the cheapest quote for the galaxy is £1100, (and with current company its over £2k
I'm 30, got 5 kids under 8yrs, part time supermarket worker, no accidents in 4 years, no points or conviction, 3 yrs NCD, oh and living in the wrong manchester post code area (where they filmed channel 4's SHAMELESS series) :-(

do they think its a posh sports car or something?

Then i heard about short term insurance (ecarinsurance) and even they are quoting £32 per day (10 days £320) outrageous!!!

I'll soon be starting work at a bus company, training for bus driver job, the depot is 5 minutes WALKING distance so wont be using car that much, all i want is cheap insurance to take family out on odd weekend days out etc.

I'll have to pay it how ever much it is but just wondering if anyone knows of certain companies that might give cheaper quotes going off personal circumstances rather than just area postcodes
:(:(

Thanks for reading :)

Same rules apply as car insurance - vehicle group, age of driver, occupation, driving experience, no claims, postcode, etc. You could try increasing the excess but the issue is that the vehicle is not a low group and you are by your own admission in an area where there is a high incidence of claims.

Potential for personal injury claims from passengers in the event of an accident is also greater because of the number of people that your vehicle is made to carry.

If you only want odd days out cover then surely you would be best to buy cover as and when you want it (or will you really use it more than that)?

Try Direct Line since they ask for fewer years claims experience.

Also try a black box policy - Coverbox or Insurethebox, who use tracking devices to monitor use so they might look more kindly on theft risk.

People carriers do, as indicated above, attract rating because of the larger number of seats and bulk so they can do more damage to more people inside and outside the car. Postcode will be a major factor here I imagine. If you hardly ever need the car, could you hire a car for occasional use rather than buy one? Saves on the other running costs and worry too.
  • thanks for both of your replies, i see your points about extra passengers and heavier bigger vehicle, but wont be doing short term insurance as i'll be using car at weekends (or days off) so would work out more than a normal quote for the year.
i still cant get it down below a grand so just looks like i'll have lo ''lump it'' lol
maybe cheaper next year with an extra years no claims.
