Has anyone used BeThere?

They offer broadband upto 24mb (depending on distance from exchange)using ADSL+2 technology, Unlimited usage, Free wireless router for £24 a month (£25 connection fee).

Its the fastest, unlimited service I can find with a free wireless router as well. They have been bought by O2, so a reputable company now.

You can only get this service if your exchange has BeThere LLU equipment installed (currently less than 20% coverage). This unfortunately counts out most of the country still at this point in time. They are aiming for approx 70% by the end of next year This is a long time in terms of broadband services offered, there should be a bigger choice by then.

also things like email and web space is an extra charge, which seems unusual these days.

Betthere keep changing the exchange dates first it was march > July > Aug and now November...

it does look like a good deal but when I rang them they said I was likely to get a line speed of 8mb (currently get 4 mb with pipex). so it is still dependant on distance from exchange.

I use Be, if your exchange is already enabled then you shouldn't have any problems - the service is very quick, I get 16meg and I live about 3/4 mile from my exchange.

Figures here are approx as i can't remmeber the exact ones but:

It is worth noting that to get 24Mb download you need to be within something like 1 km of copper wire from the exchange and 1/2 a km is wrapped up inside the exchange itself.

So if any one says you'll actually get 24Mb and you dont live within spitting distance of the exchange tell them they are telling porkies.

I got this direct from a senior engineer while on a visit to a Demon hosting centre. And if you ever get the oppurtunity to visit a big hosting centre then take it. It is a real eye opener.

I understand what your saying, but if the avearage is 8mb, then this is still quite fast and just as good as their competition.
