connecting freeview box to different TV

I had a Medion box connected to my TV, but when we got cable , we put the box away. Now my daughter has her own TV ( Toshiba) and we tried to connect the box, but it wont work. I lost the instructions, but have followed the connection instructions as shown on "Radio and Telly" website. The scart leads are in the right places, but i wondered if the TV needs to be tuned in, or if there is a particular channel to use.

it should just come on, or you may need to tap the AV button on the remote to get it to come up
you would only need to tune a channel in for it if you are using a standard aerial lead to connect to the TVEx forum ambassador

Thanks, that may be the problem. We have a digital arial, but my daughter is in a new house and I'm sure it isn't digital, as the previous owners had Sky. Is there a way of telling? There is just the normal arial connection into the back of the TV, but then so is ours. If it is a normal arial, would that mean the freeview box has to be tuned into a channel on the TV, or will the AV button work?:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

Browntoa is right and you will need to connect a SCART lead between the Freeview box and TV and switch the TV to 'AV' or similar. Even with no aerial connected you should then be able to see the Feeeview box's menus.
Once you're at that stage, you need to make sure the aerial is plugged in to the Freeview box and do a 're-scan' or 'initial installation' which will look for and store all the Freeview channels it can find.
There's no such thing as 'a digital aerial' as such. Any aerial which works for the old analogue channels should bring in at least some of the Freeview channels provided the transmitter it's pointed at transmits them (not all do yet).
If you don't get all the Freeview channels you want/expect come back and ask again here0 -
Thanks guys, I'm going to give it another try tomorrow. Is there any particular way to rescan, or would that be different with each remote?:smileyhea A SMILE COSTS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING0

There's normally a 'menu' option which should give you the option to install and/or just do a channel re-scan.
As others have said, probably just a telly difference - my oldish Samsung telly used to switch between terrestrial and digital using the freeview box remote, the new one (Phillips) doesn't. Also if the telly has 2 scarts, you'll probably find that only one of them will automatically switch when you turn the freeview box on.0
