  • I wonder how many people don't check their credit card statements against their online receipt to see if there's a discrepancy between what they thought they were paying and what they actually paid. None of us in MSE Forums obviously ;)

I can understand a supermarket taking back substitutes that you aren't happy with or items that aren't up to standard, dented cans, over ripe produce. But why should they take back stuff that someone, manages to over order, if you can't count to 6 or make up your mind whether you want an entire meal deal you should in my opinion be banned from online shopping.
No bl00dy wonder the supermarkets charge so much for things, once the stuffs been sent out it probably has to be thrown away if you decide that you didn't order correctly.

If they pay a bonus for that I had better start saying Tesco in every post I put on here even if it isn't about Tesco.

Will I get more if I say Tesco more than once in a post and does it matter if it is Tesco or tesco? :):):):T:):rotfl::beer::j

I like it hermum. Supermarkets are so expensive because they are LOSING so much money. Ha ha ha. If you have a leaky reservoir, you can resolve the problem by fixing the leak, or by constantly topping up the reservoir - which is the only really effective method, do you think?

I believe this thread is about WHY Tesco and Sainsbury don't do anything about the known over-refund issue. Anyone want to address this issue?
  • I heard a supermarket PR man on Radio 5 the other day saying that all these deals, BOGOF, 3 for 2 etc were going to be withdrawn in the near future. There had been a glitch with larger items being pro rata more expensive than smaller or something like that and a lot of people had called the programme about it - Drive Time.

He admitted that the systems can't cope with all the discounts and differential pricing on products, especially with respect to refunds and returns. He reckoned all supermarkets will eventually revert to a best low price approach because of all the hassle connected with the discounts.

Any comments on the likelihood of this happening? Will the customer be better off?
  • This discussion is quite interesting however I couldn't be bothered to mess around returning items for a couple of quid really. Having said that I am not a huge fan of supermarkets as they do monopolise the market, and with cheap offers take business from smaller retailers. It's odd that they cannot fix the problem.

I doubt this will happen. Things like BOGOF and buy 3 for the price of 2 attract a lot of customers who just see the offer and don't bother to work out a) whether it is really cheaper and b) whether they really need the item in the first place. It's good marketing and human psychology, making you think you are getting something (you probably don't need in the first place) for free.
