Hi, Thanks everyone for your input.. I am now sending it by courier. It will not be insured as it is a restricted item. But i can send it. Some couriers actually do stop you sending glass. Ive packaged it well (i hope) and hopefully it will get there in one piece. Thanks everyone

They do if you tell them. As it is uninsured for damge, say it's something else.

Soolin as far as possible I've stopped sending my pictures in their frames, just too much hassle as the OP has found, now I sell most of my pictures unframed and rolled up in a tube. Better for the customer as it costs less to send and they can then choose a frame to match their decor rather than having to make do with whatever the picture is currently in.

Sorry for the thread highjack OP

I wasn't selling modern art but unique one off stuff so the frames and glass were an integral part of the item.

How would that work then should th eitem get broken and you need to claim? Yes it looks like glass, it broke like glass but I'm claiming for a duvet cover?

You can't send glass with anybody insured, therefore you are in the same boat. If it breaks with a courier who accepts glass, no payout. So go for the cheapest carrier. If it gets lost. it's a duvet cover.

Sorry I misunderstood. It's the same system I use with RM really, the last PO I used were really picky about what they would take and what they would not, they would always want to know what I was sending if I had a lot of packets all the same. I accidentally told them once i was selling small items of costume jewellery and they got a bit sniffy about me using basic 2nd class. I told them I accepted I was not covered against loss or damage but they tried to insist I couldn't actually use the service and had to use special. Eventually they did accept my items but I had to be lectured every time i went in with similar sized packages afterwards.

After that I learnt to just tell them it was something else, hankies, or really boring items that are covered 2nd class.

Never in a decade did I ask what was in a domestic packet. You are bound to ask if it's valuable or urgent, but if someone asked for second class I would miss the second bit out.

Our crown one does the same, but I suspect it is merely to 'upsell' to a better service as whatever people tell them they are sending they are nearly always told the service isn't suitable.

  • I wouldn't personally post glass. I bought a porthole mirror from ebay, came to me by myhermes. Glass damaged and seller wanted me to send whole thing back! (broken glass by post no thanks!) so i had to make a loss and source an alternative replacement mirror- luckily i got a 9 inch round one quite cheap from someone who used a mirror as wedding centrepiece/candle holder!
If google doesn't know it, how should i?
