Peugeot 207 - Warranty or not?

Hi all! My girlfriend bought a used Peugeot 207 (58-plate, 5400 miles to date) at the start of July from a Peugeot main dealer as part of their approved used scheme. All was going well until I noticed this weekend that the passenger side foglight was no longer flush with the hole in the bumper but was 1.5-2cm back from the hole.

We took the car to the garage today who had a look and told us that the bracket was broken on that foglight and it wouldn't be covered by warranty as it 'must have hit something - we've never seen one just break'. I can categorically state that the car has not hit anything - the bumper area around it (and the rest of the car) are in pristine condition!

Could this simply be a faulty part and, as such, be covered by the warranty and, if so, how do we go about getting the garage to recognise this? I find it hard to believe that it is acceptable wear-and-tear but also it can't be because the car has been bashed as you can clearly see that it hasn't!

Any advice would be appreciated - thanks! L

  • A stone thrown up from the road possibly? Someone kicked it while the car has been parked up? To be honest, I doubt you'll get anywhere with it.

Hi Mrmichaelf, I think that's the line the garage are going to take and they also said it would be a £55 'diagnostic' fee for them to tell us if they will / won't cover it under warranty, even though they have already told us what has broken. It's just got my girlfriend all wound up as the lady at the service desk was quite rude to her and it's only with this car that she has the car of her dreams so it makes it all the worse for her.

There's no damage or mark on the lens so I doubt that it would have been a stone - must have taken a fair bit of force to break the mounting so surely it would have left some sign on the lens and yes, whilst it might be vandalism, in rural Scotland I find that hard to swallow if the garage come up with that.

i would give up argueing with them you will not get anywhere, damage is not a warranty issue peugeot would not pay the dealer to replace.
just because no damage to lens does not mean it has not hit something from memory i think the lens is plastic??
also it could well be damage from a previous owner but it has only just become apparent it is damaged by way of light moving which it may not have done previously.

if it were me i would be repairing the bracket with some strong araldite.
  • Could've been hit by a kids footie ball in the street?

It could well be the result of poor repair caused by it's previous owner/s.
