20 years NCD? Most insuers allow a maximum of 6 years NCD, don't they?

I just changed to RAC and had the same situation as the OP (also first time for many years I've had to prove NCD).
I received a letter similar to the OP and phoned to query. I was told that some companies accept up to 9years NCD so in order for them to ensure the best deal I had to prove 9years NCD. If I couldn't then my premium would increase by around £2.40

I phoned my previous insurer (Direct Line)explaining that the renewal stated 7 years (I had declared 9 (maximum allowed) on the comparison website).
They wrote me a letter stating that when I joined DL I had 15 years. With 2 claim free years at DL, I therefore had 17years NCD. RAC accepted this no problem.

I did wonder though - they make such a song and dance about comparing information and sharing data to prevent fraudulent claims, it would surely have been on the database that I had so many years NCD.

Anyway.....I got it sorted without any hassle.

Insurance companies always rip you off! My daughter was born last year just before my insurance renewal, and when it came to renewing my insurance i was asked is there anybody in the household under 16 years of age, which now there was (2month old baby) and was dually informed my insurance would increase! As its common for children to steal there parents cars!!!!! Now i would be very amazed to come down stairs in the morning and see my 2month old daughter backing the car out of the drive, giving me the fingers and driving off into the sunset!...........

You're right that a 2 month old child is not going to drive off with your car. The extra risk assessed is because a young child in the car is an additional possible distraction for the driver.

Possibly also more likely to sustain injuries and require hospital treatment incurring medical costs.
