  • Go take a look at the Health and Safety Executive Asbestos Essentials site. They provide factsheets providing guidance on removing intact asbestos containing materials, and the safety measures you need to adopt. When disposing of it this may prove expensive if it does contain abestos as has to be disposed of at a specialist licenced site!!
I work in safety (for my sins!!) and do agree that when people mention asbestos they panic and think it will kill you immediately. The guy I work with used to lay asbestos cement my hand on power stations in the 60's and is still going strong, however, he unfortunately had friends who weren't so lucky!! Asbestos can cause ill health but if the tiles are intact and umdamaged and you can remove them without causing any dust you will (probably!!) be fine.
