Is it okay?

Options
This may seem really silly but I just want to do things right. My stepdad is like the smartest man alive and knows his business when it comes to home buying. Would it be okay for him to come during our home buying to make sure that we are doing the right things and getting the best deals? We are firsdt time home buyers and really almost ended up getting in serious trouble when we tried to but last year. (Due to the agent haggling us)

Thanks,

Joy

    Of course.

I'd go for viewings alone and then take your dad back for a second viewing if you like a particular property. This is very normal for first time buyers.

Also, if you don't feel confident doing the negotiating yourself, then there's no reason why you can't ask your dad to make the offers on your behalf. No-one's going to mind if they get their house sold as a result!

:) PS. Don't let him swing your deccisions to much - you have to make your own. My Mother In Law insists we shouldn't be buying a house because it's too small...despite the fact that we are planning a big extension :wall:

I agree, of course take your step-dad along, maybe for 2nd viewings on places you really like though, otherwise he might get a bit bored!

When I looked for my place, I didn't want to go on my own, so my mum or dad always came with me. When I had an offer accepted, my mum, dad and brother all came round and had a look etc.

I actually think it's good to get other people's opinions - just make sure you make the final decision though!

    Enjoy and good luck

i agree. good to see someone with a bit of common sense. i get asked a lot in things like this and am always glad to help.
  • I think taking someone along is a great idea. If you find one you like, take some photos at the 2nd viewing (if the seller doesn't mind of course) - this really helps remind you about the house. We viewed around 20 houses and after a while couldn't remember which house had which bathroom etc.

    Good luck :D

Its always a good idea to have someone with you viewing. They often see the bits that you are blinkered to.
