Edinburgh cheap hotel help needed

Hi,
Myself and my wife are off to Edinburgh and wanting to stay somewhere close to the centre and fairly cheap. We're going on Wed 27 October for 4 nights.

Normally we got for a Travelodge and normally only use the room to sleep in, and breakfast is not really required.

I can't seem to get a fairly cheapish Travelodge at all, but may eventually stump up the cash anyway - but normally when I do this, the next day an offer appears...

Can anyone assist in finding an alternative please?

Regards

Alun

Try booking.com and laterooms as they sometimes come up with good deals in Edinburgh. Whatever you do don't go for the Travelodge Shandwick Place, it was a nightmare for some of our friends when we met up there, very noisy especially at the weekend and tiny rooms.

Cheap and Edinburgh in the same sentence is normally Edinburgh isn't cheap.

If you missed the Travelodge special offer then consider staying in Dunfermline /Livingston and getting the bus or train in, what you save in accommodation will more than pay for transport costs.

It's great if you are going to use the airport or wanting to drive north into Fife - however for Edinburgh itself it's a bit of a loss. The only Lothian Bus service that goes anywhere near it is the 48 which only runs every 40 minutes during the day. Your best bet is to drive to the Ingliston park & ride and get the 48 from there as it runs every 10 minutes from there
  • What sort of budget are you looking at?

    Thanks Alan.
Did look at bus routes, not too worried TBH.When booking independantly we often book places that are a bit out of town.Using public transport is part of the fun.

Its worth looking at the Holiday Inn Express Edinburgh City Centre I booked the new(ish) one near Leith Walk. I was really surprised how central it was and you get a basic breakfast free. Its great value ep if you are a family as they don't charge for children.

There is a thread on how to get holiday inn's cheaper.

But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more

    Hi,
Thanks for all the help so far - budget is between £200-300 for the 4 nights... We are coming up by train so intend to use public transport all the time.
  • The Hi Hostel on Haddington place is £56 for a private double room.It is pretty central as well which will save on transport costs.
  • Hi,

When we go up to Edinburgh, we stay in a private, spacious rented house - 2 large double bedrooms - and cheaper than booking with hotels.

Go onto Edlets and look for White Horse Close. It's on the bottom of the Royal Mile, next door to Holyrood Palace, (you can't get more central than this).

You can stay for as little or as long as you like. We stayed there this July for eight days, six of us, and paid £380 all in.

To cap it all, it's part of a historic courtyard dating well before 1900.

    Hope this is useful.

    Trish
