hey all.

ill start by saying, im new.

im about to start a house makeover. im looking for a couple of cheap labourers to help me pull the wallpaper down, strip the kitchen, and chase some walls. then once some other work is carried out, i would want them back to sand, and paint walls and woodwork

the house is in waltham cross. near enfield, or north london

£50 a day reasonable?

i will also be looking for an electrician to lay some cable, though i will probably need to spend a little more to get a qualified leccy in.

for a kitchen im probably gonna use howdens, though i have had wickes kitchens before, and theres nothing wrong with them if you can build a flat pack.

for tiles i might try topps tiles, unless people can recommend me somewhere else?

i have been in the contsruction industry myself for 11 years, though i am now not in a fit state to do all the work myself, so am looking for help.

any recommendations? or labourers that need work? let me know guys

thanks in advance

ps, i like this bath, any1 got something similar for less money, or can comment on this for quality?

ambassador 8 jet 1400x1400 corner bath? i found it with free end panel for £529. seems expensive to me. just want to weigh up my options

Youll get good labour I think in London, someone i know gets labour off gumtree.

But have a heart for heavens sake would you work for 50 quid a day in London?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind

Not being funny, but people like the op deserve all they get.just get a decent tradesman in ie a painter in and get the job done right.

So basically you want to pay nothing?

Peanuts and monkeys come to mind here.

Ask yourself, if someone came you offering £50 per day to do the above would you?

With the figures your talking the only way to do it that cheap with your location (or anywhere for that matter) is by pulling in favors from family and friends and get them to help.

If you have been in the trade for 11 years you should have some idea of a rough figure as to the going rate for a labourer.

Checking the job center job search for labourers in your area the going rate seems to be £6.50-£7.00.

    http://jobseekers.direct.gov.uk/listjob.aspx?sessionid=0fe5018b-5e93-48ae-b37a-a5fe5b6f9dd2&pid=2&sid=231121943&p=1&so=1

Personally i would be looking at £8PH then because if they are having to advertise then they cannot get people at £6.50.
Just going off that search. But remember they will be bog standard labourers expect to pay quite a bit more for a labourer with a bit of sense that can do a bit on their own.

    Just my opinion.
