Income Support claim.....

After the company I was working for folded a couple of weeks back, I have had to admit defeat for the time being and apply for Income Support.

How long does it take for claims to be processed these days? I don't have a p45 but the man I spoke to on the phone said that's fine, I just have to take my bank statements into the JCP to show that there is no money going in, but he couldn't give me even a rough estimate of how long it would take.

Thanks in advance

Why is it you have claimed income support and not jobseekers allowance ? Surely as you were working up until a few weeks ago it should be JSA you claim.

A friend of mine applied recently for JSA and was told it would be 3 weeks at least until she got any money , i am unsure if this is the case all over the country though or just in certain areas , when you go to the jobcentre for your interview they will be able to tell you how long you may be waiting for a payment.

Because my youngest is 2. I asked and was told that IS is what I should claim because I am a single parent.

    Thank you for your help.
