That seems fair. They have to investigate the engine to see what caused the failure in order to put the case to Vauxhall.
  • Ok here is the latest on my friendselderly fatherS precicament

ballyrobert vauxhall have actually came back with a good will gesture of 1200 quid.
They have a same model with more miles and same year sitting in their grounds for £4500
    .

They said the Conrod was away if that makes sense so needs new engine.
    How can 1200 be justifiable.
What does everyone else think. Where should I go from here.
The car was not fit for purpose as someone said.
Should I contact ballyrobert and threaten to take it t Stephen Nolan or take it up with vauxhall.
This is an elderly man here who shouldn't be made to fight for what's right.
To top it off he actually purchased another agila from them at full price. An 09 one I believe just the other day.

So this is his reward for loyalty.

I and I am sure no one else here is going to let them get away with it. Especially to a pensioner

    all help greatly appreciated

Leaking Carb or the timing off could cause the rod to break, doesnt happen a lot in standard road cars moreso in modded cars. Would £1200 not put a recon engine in it?

Ballyrobert/Vauxhall are being more than reasonable as the car is OUT of warranty

Take their offer and get on with your life

I think that is being a wee bit harsh there.

It may be out of warranty, but read the facts, FSH, low mileage, surely Vauxhall have a moral responsibility here ?

You may have the money to throw at this if you were in the same situation but I doubt the owner of the car has.

  • Ballyblack defending ballyrobert. You would almost think that was someone from ballyrobert saying that.

    Further to add.
Phoned customer relations who said they were waiting on more detail from ballyrobert. Although ballyrobert said vauxhall had made an offer of 1200. Trying to pull the wool over our eyes and they ain't getting away with it.

Also the 1200 was for the complete car, not hand the car back and give him 1200.

A car problem for a 72 year old is a much bigger issue than for a younger person. Getting used to another car will be stressful and maybe even only another Agila will do.
    BUT
    - you dont know for sure how he's been driving the car really (or how it's been looked after)? (when it was last serviced there did the mechanic suspect a problem? Wouldnt happen overnight would it?)

    - it is out of warranty so ANY dealer would have no obligation!

-I had a Corsa from Ballyrobert and got it serviced there etc and I thought they seemed genuinely nice people to deal with.

I'd have someone go and explain the stress that this is causing and appeal for the best they can do for him - good customer- loyal to their dealership ( bought 2nd car and all recently) -appreciates the way he's always been dealt with etc etc. This a family firm -I'd ask to speak to the manager/owner.

I hope this works out ok for him- you're a good friend.

Are you sure you have understood their offer? I read the same thing into what you posted, don't see the difference.

Are you sure the offer wasn't £1200 towards repairs?

I have nothing whatsoever to do with Ballyrobert or Vauxhall, never dealt with them. Just seeing the other side of the argument

I thought a expired warranty was just that
  • Will look into it. My understanding was they were offering 1200 for the car. Case closed for now until we have more info on Monday
