Good thinking I'll give them a try :)
  • There is quite a lot of night life centered around sheik zayed road so the qamardeen hotel as has already been suggested would be a good bet as it pretty central and so on.

To get a taste of Arabia go down to the creek by the British embassy and have a wander around the bastikiya area, fabric souk ( the correct name escapes me) and the Dubai museum then hop on an abra 1 dhs or so to the deira side where you have the gold and spice souks if you do this late afternoon sunset it's gorgeous! Just to add you can hire an abra to yourselves to go for a trip up the creek

Dubai mall is the biggest mall in the world and if you stay in the qarmadeen complex you'll be there so a trip to moe and the ski slope could be fun!

Desert safari again is a must as well

one of my fave bars in Dubai is barasti at the meridien as it's right on the beach, the vue bar at the top of emirates towers has amazin views as the name suggsests, shisha is ways a fun experience and reem al bawadi on the jumeirah beach road is an unliscenced but very authentic
Arabic restaurant that's popular with the locals!

If you want any more info feel free to ask - my family have lived there for years

OP, check the map for location of your hotel. This Meridien is not the one mentioned earlier, which is next to the airport (great hotel, stayed there loads of times); but nowhere near the beach :)

We're flying to Brisbane in October and are stopping over in Dubai for a couple of days. We arrive on 3rd Oct at 0030 and leave on 5th Oct at 0245. So we'll need a hotel for the 3rd - 4th October.

    Dont you need a hotel for 2nd October & 3rd October not 3rd & 4th?

Agree with Twentiesgirl (#13). Go and see some of the real Dubai down by the Creek. It's fascinating. Take an Abra (very small ferry) across to the other side, but be careful as you get on and off. Watch the many Dhows being loaded/unloaded with a myriad of goods/supplies. Visit the gold souq in the same area. You can even walk under the Creek! You can easily fill 2 or 3 hours in the area, and you'll leave Dubai with richer memories than most people, who only experience the bling!

Yes, sorry well spotted, I had been staring at the flight times for too long!

ok I've checked out the Qamardeen Hotel and also the Admiral Plaza Hotel which I found on the Emirates website under stopovers. The Admiral Plaza is half the price and sounds basic but the location seems to be good especially for the creek that has been mentioned, they also offer a pick up/drop off service for the airport. I think the Qamardeen Hotel may be more than we need for a stopover.

I'm going to collate the info on this thread and work out what we want to do, although the desert safari will be a definite.

    Thanks everyone for the info.

Most of the city hotels who also have properties on the beach offer free daily shuttles to their sister hotels.

Le Meridien and the Dubai Hilton Creek certainly did, although I never go there now, that was the case a couple of years ago.
  • Jut get a hotel and chill by the pool. Be sure not to get too funky with the missus in public mind.
Stoning someone to death, lashings and treating women as second class citizens is fine, just don't kiss one.
