If I were you I would call the call centre during the day and you'll get through to someone in the UK. They have the power to write off 1 charge without any questions as long as you havn't had any done before in the last 12 months. If you have, ask to speak to the department that deals with charges and explain to them (don't shout and tell them its their fault) that you just can't afford it and you'll be on the bread line , and they are pretty lenient and should reverse them for you. If you find yourself in difficulty they can freeze any further charges being added until your back in credit, they usually give you 6 months.
Also tell them you want transactions declined if you don't have the funds available, and don't want to make use of the instant overdraft facility.0
