Dont know much about SORN - my car insurance is due, as is tax and MOT however, i really cant afford to pay them all this month. So i was thinking about declaring a SORN on my car and keeping it on my drive until the end of next month. Is it just the case of going online and paying the tax then it just restarts?

• If you use the form to SORN it online then it cannot be used again to tax it and you will need to tax it at the P.O. taking along your log book as well as MOT and insurance.

If you SORN it, it can be taxed online using the code from the V5c

One thing to consider: If your MOT expires while it's off road, how will you get it to a garage to test it? You won't be able to tax it until the MOT is valid.

You can drive to a prebooked MOT without either MOT or Tax

Without an MOT, yes. Without tax, no.

That's incorrect:
Exemptions in Connection with an M.O.T. or Goods Vehicle test
Section 5 and Paragraph 22 Schedule 2 Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994 A vehicle is exempt from the requirement to have a vehicle licence if it is being used on a public road solely :-
• for being taken to a pre-arranged compulsory test, or • from a compulsory test, or • during a compulsory test, by an authorised person, or • having failed a compulsory test, whilst being taken to a place where by prior arrangement the defects are to be remedied, or returning from such a place.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Driving an untaxed vehicle to an MOT test

You can drive your vehicle to and from a pre-arranged test at an MOT test station as long as you have adequate insurance cover in place for the use of that vehicle.
This is also for vehicles being driven to and from a pre-arranged test at a Vehicle Inspection Check (VIC) test station, an approved weight testing station and reduced pollution test.

Excellent Mr Holmes! I was looking for something similar to that but hadn't tracked it down ;)
