Question about Google UK search

Previously when you went to https://www.google.co.uk, under the search box you had the option of search the web or pages from UK. However Google have now removed these options and only after you have googled something, can you then select pages from the UK in the left pane. Other than using Firefox's home page is there any other way to bring back the old Google UK search page?

Cheers :)

Searching from google.co.uk searches the uk anyways
If you wish to search normally then use google.com

If you only want results from a .co.uk domain you can add inurl:.co.uk but that would exclude all the UK sites which run on .com .net etc. etc.

As Rik says using google.co.uk favours results from what google considers to be uk related websites but selecting "Pages from the UK" does result in a complex query string including the terms

    &tbs=ctr:countryUK%7CcountryGB
    &cr=countryUK%7CcountryGB

    and the results are different.

Adding ctr:countryUK%7CcountryGB to the search terms produces different results yet again

I don't see how you can alter the initial page displayed though.

No, Google searches everything (incl UK) from google.co.uk eg type Amazon and you will get both UK and USA results, you can then filter results in left panel. Granted for many people its not an issue but i prefer the old search system. At present i have set Firefox's Google homepage in my Chrome browser to get around this.....but not being a big fan of Firefox (slow and clunky compared to Chrome), i don't like seeing the word Firefox on my homepage! LOL
  • Is there any way to modify Firefox's URL so that you get the old Google search page without the firefox logo?

    google.co.uk/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official

Thanks for that, but having installed Chrome extensions from that blog it only removes the Google sidebar (left pane) after you have searched. Oh well guess i'll have to stick with Firefox's home page
