DSG gearbox – jerky gear changes
Had a drive in a Peugeot 3008 1.6 diesel fitted with a DSG box. Basically it is a semi-automatic. Have noticed the gear changes are a bit jerky. Is this normal? This is the first car i have driven with DSG gearbox. I expected smooth changes as per fully automatic gearbox.
Problem with having access to internet is that i get asked by many to solve their problems
Well at least i learn something on the way

I have a Ford Focus with the Ford Powershift DSG gearbox fitted. It is really smooth when driving in automode. My brother also has a C_Max with the same Powershift box and likewise that is smooth as well. I test drove a VW Golf with a DSG a few months back and that was similar to the Ford 'box.
In comparison to a normal auto, I found them to be very similar.
I haven't driven a Peugeut DSG, but I would imagine that it should be similar to the Ford/VW DSG's, so there maybe a fault on it?

I had a DSG golf for a while..and I'd have one again in a heartbeat. It was the smoothest auto/semi auto box I've ever found...you didn't know it was changing!0

I just wish car makers would revert back to a normal auto box. All these fancy boxes are nothing but trouble!0

Agreed, the old type auto boxes were well tried and tested, a proven system.0 -
...as were a good old fashioned diesel engine0

Agreed again, why can they not leave well alone?
If it ain't broke, don't ( try ) to fix it.0 -

I disagree..:) I've had fully hydro, electrohydraulic and DSG now, and the DSG wins hands down for smoothness, speed and sheer driving pleasure. Doing 30 in 6th was an eyebrow raiser, as was the "what can this car do? coming up to 100 in 5th with 1 gear left? ARGH!", coupled to 450+ miles to a tank, driven quite hard.
I'm now back in an electrohydraulic auto, and yes I like it. It's an AW/GM AF13II/AF17 unit, 4 speed lockup job with sports mode. It's OK, but GM tarted about with it. The Astra3 has the AF13I box, and that was actually a nicer cruiser.
Since I own both an Astra4 and an Astra3, it's quite odd noticing the difference.
Full hydro boxes are..OK. Fuel hungry if they're non-lockup (as mine were), a bit breathless at speed, and no use if they go wrong as there's no monitoring to tell you!
I had a problem with a VW type 010 hydrobox that had become maladjusted and was trying to engage parts of 1st with bits of reverse..that was a fun one to do. You could adjust the governors on those too, heh.
I've found the GM Electrohydraulic boxes to be painless and reliable..but I do gearbox oil changes every year and look after them, and regularly plug the laptop in to check if anything's not quite right.0 -

Sirbendy, you either need to get out more or have not had your head out of a gearbox in a very, VERY, long time0 -

I sold a SEAT Altea 2yrs ago with the 2.0TDi engine and a DSG gearbox.
Never again will I own a car with this heap of rubbish attached to an engine.
When it worked it was fine apart from the pause in 1st between depressing the accelerator and the car moving off which made junctions like a thrill ride......will my car move before that oncoming car hits me !
When it failed to work the dash would flash and I would have to disconnect the battery for 20mins, then reconnect it and waggle the selector about until it was happy and would drive.
Despite repeated attempts by the local dealer in warranty it was never right, almost every part was replaced.
I sold it right out of warranty, explained it all to the buyer and showed him the warranty repair paperwork but it broke down on him 24hrs later.
A mates A4 with the multitronic box did similar things and DSG problems are common on the 3.2TT.
56600 Audis and VWs have been recalled in the US with DSG gearbox problems, German reliability has become somewhat of a myth methinks.
And finally, check the price of a DSG gearbox service and ask yourself if you really want this auto.0
