Help with getting help

Hi all,

Just thought I'd ask those in the know if there is any further help out there, I am 30 yrs old, single and I have a mortgage, I lost my job back in March and haven't been able to find a replacement job as yet, however I am unable to live on the JSA I get either, I am currently in recipt of council tax benefits, I get my free dental treatment and through mortgage support scheme they are able to pay a little toward my mortgage, unfortunately due to the size of my mortgage I still have to find £210 a month to put toward my mortgage before anything else goes out. now I'm told that because of my personal circumstances I am not entitled to receive any further state benefits (single, no dependants, mortgaged) is this really the case?

Any help in this matter greatly appreciated.

You sound as if you're getting all the help available to you. Have you considered selling you property or getting in a lodger or two?
  • Thanks Oldernotwiser,

I thought this was the case to be honest but didn't see the harm in asking you never know, selling the house looks to be the only option at present which is a shame as it was my grandmothers house and she passed away earlier this year, that is of course unless i get a job in the next couple of weeks.
  • If i were able to rent out a room for say £340 pcm would that effect any benefits i am claiming for at the moment?
