Yet another Comet story!

A few months ago I bought an Indesit Cooker from an on-line electrical store (not Comet). Unbeknown to me at the time, the cooker actually came from Comet.
The cooker was part of a new kitchen build and somewhere in the process one of the handles broke and this is where the story begins.
1. Ring Comet to explain that I needed a new handle. It only needed 4 levels of telephone options to do this!
2. Arrange for a gas engineer to come round. This is because it is a gas appliance, so I was told.
3. Hijack gas engineer travelling to no. 71 instead of no. 17
4. Sigh as gas engineer orders replacement handle (delivery within 28 days)
5. New handle arrives, but the screws don't fit (the new handle has a brass collar threaded post)
6. Ring Comet asking for screws.
7. Arrange for another gas engineer to come round. This is because it is a gas appliance, so I was told.
8. Sigh again as gas engineer orders screws for said handle (delivery within 28 days)
9. Wait patiently for screws
10. Large box arrives containing two gas control knobs for a completely different cooker.
11. Ring Comet (again) pleading for screws.
12. New handle arrives - no screws.
13. Ring Indesit - they have plenty on screws and will arrange for some to be delivered at a cost of about £7.00
14. Apologetic call from Comet - they assure me the screws will arrive in the next couple of days.
Conclusion - pop down to the local tool-hire/hardware shop and say "Have you got anything that would fit this" followed by "Thank you very much" after handing over 14 pence.
!!! STILL NO SCREWS !!!

Why are you dealing with Comet when you bought the item from a different retailer? My thought exactly >even if the other company is basically dropshipping you need to deal with that company it's up to them to deal with comet or the manufacturer.
And me. There's a theme emerging... perhaps the OP needs to return with more details..."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

Give them a chance. The OP posted this less than 24 hours ago, and may not be online more than once every one or two days, maybe less.Any advice or opinion is only informal advice to the best of my knowledge. Just covering my back, yadda yadda.0 -
To be fair to them, if you broke the handle then its accidental damage....
As its unlikely you would break the screws as well, it doesn't seem too far out of reasonableness for a replacement handle you ordered to be just a handle...0 -
Many thanks for all the replies (however varied). This was posted late last night and this is the first opportunity to review the post.
The cooker was bought from "Kitchen Science" and it's pretty much "yes" all round.
Yes - Kitchen Science should have dealt with it.
Yes - KS should not have off loaded it to Comet.
Maybe this is a case of "buyer be warned".
Whatever the general feeling is, it should be a reasonably painless task to get a handle and the screws to go with it don't you think?
As I said, "buyer be warned".
And finally, the order for the correct screws is still not complete!!0 -
