Extending to create extra Bedroom - Options & issues?

I would love to go for the 2 storey but pretty sure my funds will not extend that far!!

At the moment im vying towards a single storey, from the edge of where my patio doors are to the neighbours wall(this is the width of my L shape living room) and then making a room from the part of my living room that is on the front of the house:huh:

If you're going to do a single storey extension I would have a look at your roofing options. Don't go for a flat roof if you can avoid it, there are plenty of more attractive options. If the extension is going to be living room you could
have it open to the apex (not sure of correct phraseology...but like in a barn) which would make it seem more airy. Also means you could have some glass in the roof to bring more light into the original part of the living room.

I'd recommend getting hold of an architect if you can. I had one round who came up with some fab ideas for extending my place, things I'd never thought of (& trust me, I've been giving it a lot of thought lately!! ) I actually got her via the Riba scheme where they raise money for Shelter. It's only on once a year, & was in June, but you could always register for next year. You get an hour consultation for a minimum donation of £35 to Shelter.

Thanks for your reply, and i must admit i have been looking at some design sites and there is so much scope - Imagination running wild. However this has to be done in true MSE fashion - So just the basic extension that will give me that extra room.
