Microsoft Money 2006 problem

I use Microsoft Money 2006 to keep track of my accounts, and for several months it's worked fine. Yesterday, completely out of the blue, it stoppped working and gave me this message:
We were unable to load a required library mnymetal.dll
Error code 0x0000001f
I've reinstalled the software but it hasn't made any difference. I've also checked the Microsoft Knowledge Base (pretty useless), and done all the usual things like check for viruses, spyware etc on the off-chance that it's something to do with that (though I doubt it is).
I'm really at a loss about what to do next, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

try this to re-register the DLL

regsvr32 C:\Windows\System32\mnymetal.dllEx forum ambassador

you may need to unregister it and then do the above by using
regsvr32 /u C:\Windows\System32\mnymetal.dllEx forum ambassador

Okay, I tried both of the above Browntoa and it returned this message:
LoadLibrary("e\utilities\microsoft money 2006\mnycorefiles\mnymetal.dll") failed.
GetLastError returns 0x0000001f
Your help is greatly appreciated, but I'm still stuck0 -
try this
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html
The main reason for using this utility is when you suspect there may be a problem with a Windows XP system file.
Perhaps you get a dialog box appear informing you of a problem with a .dll file, or your program will just not load! It is therefore worth checking to see if there are any corrupt system files using scannow sfc.
To do this simply go to the Run box on the Start Menu and type in:
sfc /scannow
This command will immediately initiate the Windows File Protection service to scan all protected files and verify their integrity, replacing any files with which it finds a problem.
The following should appear to give an indication of how long the process is taking.

Unfortunately I have Windows ME not XP (yeah, I know ) which doesn't have sfc. Do you know of any third party utilities that can do a similar thing? Sorry to be a pain in the you-know-what...0

Me has system restore, you could go back to a point where it last worked
To restore your computer settings from an earlier time:- Click the Start button.
- Point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore.
- Choose Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next.
- Click a day on the calendar, click the restore point description, and then click Next.
- Make sure you have closed all your files and open programs, and then click OK to close the dialog box.
- Click Next.

Tried that initially, and for some reason there weren't any restore points available
Still no closer to solving the problem I'm afraid0 -
Okay, I've solved the problem, and it was nothing to do with Money itself. It was caused by a program called PrimoPDF, a free PDF convertor. When installed under Windows98 or ME it corrupts the msimg32.dll file.
I only realised this file was corrupted when I tried to load Nero whilst trying to provide a solution to Sparky67's post 'Burning an MP3 Compilation - why so difficult??'. Turns out, Sparky indirectly provided one for me (Thanks Sparky).
I Googled the problem and found an answer on the PrimoPDF forums:
http://forums.primopdf.com/showthread.php?t=445
Although the post was in relation to MSN Messenger, the .dll file was the same one that was causing Nero to fail. I followed the advice and downloaded a fresh version of msimg32.dll, and now Money works fine. Though it appeared that mnymetal.dll was the cause, the problem actually lay elsewhere.
So, a final word of warning about PrimoPDF if you still use 98 or ME - it'll cause several programs to fail (Money, Nero, Messenger at least, maybe more), and the solution won't be immediately obvious, as I found out over several hours looking for one. :rolleyes:0 -
:T Really THANKS : I had exactly the same problem with Money 2005 since I have updated msimg32.dl file (but I didn't know the problem was coming from this file); I restored the old version (fortunatly I had formely saved it "msimg32.old") and at once Money has worked again.
Actually I have updated msimg32 to help to use Opera internet browser (quite faster than Windows Internet Explorer); so far Opera seems to work with the old version of msimg32.dll).
Your advice was the only one that allowed me to solve the issue.
Many thanks.0
