Tax credit question....confused!

Hi

I rang tax credit helpline about 2 weeks ago to tell them that my childcare costs has gone down from £80 to £50 a week, so today I got my award notice through saying thanks for telling us about the change but it still showed the old amout of £80 a week for childcare costs so I called them today and told them about this. The guy seemed a bit clueless and took all the details again. I told him I had already changed it two weeks ago hence the paperwork but he put it through as a new change again. He then said ok this will be sent through to our head office for them to look at and they will be in touch for more info, he wouldn't say what though. Does anyone know what this could be? I know when you first call and you press the options if you say there is a change in your circumstances then the recorded message says if you have made a few changes then they may check it out. I have nothing to hide but can't help worrying as I've owed them a few overpayments in the past etc!
Can anyone help with this? Thanks x

  • you get 4 weeks childcare at the old costs when reducing it
the letter is confirming the change but your payments will reduce after 4 weeks
it shows the old costs as the system needs to hold them for that 4 weeks, it will then change
does the award notice not give you the payments after that time?

Thanks for the reply, no it doesn't give the future payment info which is odd, I'm just wondering what he was on about saying they need more info
  • just give it another 2 weeks or so and if payments havent decreased, call up and make sure costs have been reduced but should be all done if you got award
