Online insurance quote vs. Over the phone.... help

My daughter was a named driver on our insurance policy (about £650)
She had a fault accident last december....

Renewal quote came in as about £1200  even with a protected NCB

Phoned up insurance company... now policy is "rated" as high risk.. Asked why putting in EXACT details online come up so much cheaper...they said that if we did this... they would intercept the quote and change it.....

Quotes online (with same company and others)are about £650 with HER as the MAIN DRIVER....

So what would happen if I bought the quote online, at MUCH cheaper price??

Can they do this??

Surely they must sell it to me online at quoted price??

Thank you for any advice
:)

How do other companies compare if you move?
  • Other companies are similar... around the 600-800 mark for her as main driver.... (online)

This is why I am confused...?!? as I can buy online for SO much cheaper !! despite what they have told me !
  • Most insurance is sold cheaper online as companies move to the automated world of wageless machines....

Are you not wanting to complete the deal online? if you do, it will be done and dusted at the price you click and save.

Very best of luck with your quote.
Marry a Foreigner, its so much cheaper!

    Move to a different company.
So long as you have declared everything truthfully, there should be no problems.
It's probably just your existing company trying it on with you.
You may even find that when you phone them to decline the renewal, they can suddenly match the online quote. Personally I'd tell them where to go if they did though.
  • I'm just a little confused with the legalities...? Can they bump up or cancel my insurance if I have bought it online with correct details??

    :)

No they can't. But you need to be absolutely certain that you have given all the correct details. Also online sites contain information about the criteria you need to meet, for the quote to be valid You therefore need to make sure you have read everything.

It can also be advisable to take screen prints of all the screens that you complete or need to read and to save these on your computer. Insurers do update their systems and the information could come in handy if you ever got into an argument with them.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
