Barclaycard nightmare!!

First of all i apologise for the lengthy thread! But i seriously need some help and advice please.
Barclaycard has me almost suicidal with their constant harasment with a dozen daily phonecalls to my home, mobile and work phone demanding payment for a credit card protection company that i have not authorised to take a payment from them!
Last November i paid off my barclaycard balance, destroyed my card and thought i had informed them. In May this year i was sent a barclaycard statement with a balance of £36 on it! It was taken out by a credit card protection company and was not requested by me. I rang barclaycard and told them that i had cancelled and paid off my barclaycard and have not authorised this payment but they said that i had not cancelled my card and that i needed to speak to the credit card protection company as there was nothing they could do! (I also cancelled the card officially). I rang the card protection company and was on the phone for about 20 minutes arguing with them that i had not authorised this payment and did not want this service. They were absolutely adament that they had written to me several times over the previous months telling me that if i did not want this service that i had to opt out of it and as i hadn't opted out that they had the right to take the money from barclaycard and i couldn't cancel with them until the renewal next year!! not only do i not recall receiving any correspondence from them and if i did it was obviously not made clear that i had to opt out or pay up! i was absolutely furious! surely that is stealing?? taking unauthorised money that i had not signed or given a secure pin for them to withdraw the money? Since then as i have said, Barclaycard has rang me everyday. On the 31st of July i finally gave in to an automated message and made a payment of £10. which it evolves has not gone through properly (although was confirmed over the phone) and Barclaycard have now charged me a late payment fee plus interest (on a cancelled account!!) and i now apparently owe them over £60 !!!
i am so angry! and am beginning to feel depressed with their constant phonecalls. i can seriously understand why people resort to suicide with this constant harressment! as with most of this country at the moment i am struggling to make ends meet, i can't afford to take my poorly dog to the vets or fill up my oil tank for the winter let alone pay £60 for a servcie i don't need or want! they are all bloody con artists !!surely this can't be right? who do i write to and what do i say? Please help! thank you so much for reading this.

When you said ''I thought I had informed them...'' you lost the argument as far as I am concerned.
Pay the bill if you had PPI on the card previously it would have been based on the balance of the last statement - if it was out of the blue ie completely new then raise a complaint.
If it was a continuous payment then Barclaycard have done nothing wrong it is up to you to cancel with the company concerned. Closing the card does not cancel any CPA on the card as you have found out.0 -
Whether or not the OP cancelled the card is not the issue. It seems he was missold PPI.
The opt-out thing I don't believe is enforceable and he should be writing a formal complaint.
Start by writing to the PPI company and request a copy of the documents and any signed agreement proving your acceptance. Then ask for a refund.
I don't know much more about PPI reclaiming, but this might help: http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/ppi-loan-insurance0 -
