Question about contract - ending today or tomorrow?

A friend of mine has a contract from 1st of June 2010 to 1st of September 2010 (tomorrow) - she's asking if she needs to leave the house today or can she leave it tomorrow?

What is the right answer?

  • Does your friend want to leave the property? It sounds to me like they have a poorly thought out and worded contract but if the last day is tomorrow then they should leave tomorrow if they don't or can't move out today.

Hi BitterAndTwisted, they just need an extra day for their arrangements etc but they are not sure if they are allowed to stay or not for another day, the question is if the contract says 1st of September 2010 which is tomorrow does that mean the last day is today or the last day is tomorrow?
  • If the contract says to the 1st of September then the last day is tomorrow. Usually when there are "from" and "to" dates they are inclusive. No-one in their right mind would have written a contract running for three calender months and one day but that appears to be what they have done.

    Thank you! :money:
The landlord anyway is a very nice guy and has no problems to let them stay even 2 days more. :D
