I am currently receiveing I.S due to being severely disabled with MS.
At present i am the claimant, for me and my husband, but healthwise i am finding it extremely difficult to deal with things.
My husband claims carers allowance for me so would it be possible to close my I.S claim for us both and for him to apply for I.S for us both due to him being my carer
hope this makes sense

Hi
When you claimed IS you would have claimed as a couple therefore it makes no difference whose name the claim is in so its not worth stopping one claim and reclaiming under a different name. If you do that, you could be without benefits for a while. Do DWP know he is your carer? Check your annual notice to ensure they do.The Cabbage

If you are finding it difficult to sort things out you could write to the DWP giving your authorisation for your DH to deal with any problems with your claim.0

thank you cabbage and alwaysonthego for your replies
yes they do know he is my carer
i never realised that i could let them know i was having problems and authorise someone to help with my claim.
thanks once again very much appreciated0 -

As you are able to use a PC & post on this forum, JCP would not appoint your husband to act on your behalf in relation to your claim. JCP would only consider this if you were mentally incapable of doing so. You can however, ask JCP to speak to your husband on the phone if/when needed about your claim.0 -

Sorry stazi but you have the wrong end of the stick
yes i posted in my name as i always do, but my husband types for me, i cannot type, i cannot even sit up or feed myself, my husband/carer has to turn me in bed every 2 hours to prevent pressure sores and change my incontinence pads 5 times a day
i only use this site in my name for a bit on independance and to feel useful i suppose, i just tell my hubby/carer my words and he types for me .0 -
Sorry to hear about your condition misty blue. However, JCP would only consider appointing your husband to deal with your benefit claim, if you were mentally incapable, not just physically incapable, of managing your affairs.0

My husband has ischeamic heart disease and arthritis and problems with short term memory.I am his carer but i am also his appointee. All correspondence comes direct to me so it is possible to get this done. After all if or when the disabled person loses their faculties then they cant give permission for you to handle their affairs so its too late then!0
