Account closing interest rip-off...
Comments
-
best rule - assume a bank will do what is in THEIR interest0

The only (cash) account I've had where they voluntarily and freely CHAPSed the money into my linked account on the day of maturity - was Anglo Irish, just under a year ago.
But after several months of living with 'will they / won't they survive' ....... I think it was probably a welcome bit of PR rather than how they conduct business in normality.0 -
alliance have very poor systems in place, expect this hence the fab interest rates0

Same thing happened to me - I asked for the closing interest to be put into my linked account but they sent a cheque (after a week). I complained and they added £6.50 to my account. £1.50 for lost interest (more than enough to cover) and £5 for the phone calls (actually cost nothing as I used an 0800 number from saynoto0870.com !0

And the same thing happened to me also. When I rang to close the account Online 5 Saver if I remember correctly, they said they would credit my account. A week went by, nothing, then they contacted me and told me they would have to send me a cheque as the amount was over £20K. The first original person I spoke to when closing the account obviously did not know this as they knew how much was in the account as he told me! It took 2 weeks from notifiying them I wanted to close it, to receiving the cheque! No I was not happy either. But on a positive, I too used the freephone number but didnt get anything for loss of interest as I didnt complain. Lesson learned I think.0

Dont close the account and they wont get their knickers in a twist over it, leave a penny in there or whatever0
