Help with car insurance settlement please

We had an accident way back in April and my husband was injured, to cut a long story short our insurance company put us in touch with solicitors to act for us.
In May we received a letter stating that it would probably go in our favour, in June we received another letter saying that the third parties insurer would settle on a 80/20 basis in our favour.
However the other day we received a letter stating that we would be paid x amount at 80/20 in THEIR favour!
We have rung the solicitors and they have said it was miscommunication and that it is 80/20 in their favour and that they wouldnt advise that we go to court as we could lose everything,
Any ideas what to do or where we stand would be appreciated thankyou:o
