How much do you earn?Gone ... or have I?0

Are you already claiming working tax credit?0

If you pay rent and/or council tax, potentially Housing Benefit / Council Tax Benefit respectively. Claim from your local council - if you delay claiming, you may lose benefit if entitled.0

His JSA is linked to 3yrs of NI contributions not your income, perhaps this needs re-visiting.
Income Support takes your earnings into account but thats 182 days down the line.Marry a Foreigner, its so much cheaper!0 -

The claimant was self employed, so CB JSA would not be relevant. Also, you have your years wrong.
The claimant will not be eligible for IS, they would have claimed for (and been declined) IB JSA.Gone ... or have I?0 -

Thanks for the correction, i was working on some earlier research having never used JSA
How can you tell from the OP that they would have previously been turned down for IB JSA? i thought you go for CB JSA for 182 and then IB IS from there,
Why do self employed not get CB JSA?Marry a Foreigner, its so much cheaper!0 -

The OP works full time, so will earn too much for IB JSA.
Self employed workers pay a different class of NI Conts, Class 2 (and 4?), whereas Class 1 Conts are required for CB JSA.Gone ... or have I?0 -
The OPs best recourse would be to contact Tax Credits to give a revised estimation of income for the hubby. That should trigger an immediate re-calculation of tax credits and an increase of payments assuming the revision is lower than the estimate given on renewal.0

Yes - it's either no NI (if earnings are low enough), then class 2, then class 4 AND class 2 if earnings are high enough. Upto date NI figures / bands are on the HMRC website. One (known) exception to self-employed / JSA - share fishermen can get JSA(CB). So, all you have to do is move to Grimsby...
