Failing MOT?

Would a scuff mark on the windscreen be enough for a car to fail it's MOT?
This mark is about the size of a 50p piece. I never noticed it until it was pointed out by Autoglass. They said I'll have to replace the windscreen as this was enough to fail an MOT.
How true is this? I never did replace the windscreen but as the cars booked in for it's first MOT this week I'm getting a bit worried!

Depends where on the screen it is. If it is directly in the drivers eyeline then possibly.
I would wing it and push it through anyway but be prepared for a screen change.0 -
It is on the drivers side but not directly in the drivers eyeline.
It's above the eyeline, and a bit more to the right.
It's kind of hard to explain!Future Mrs Gerard Butler

If it doesn't bother you then just have the MOT done with a sufficient amount of muck on the windscreen, so it isn't easily visible.0

Check the diagram on UKMOT.

A windscreen repair business told me my car would fail an MOT due to a 'star' in the screen. I went to my local garage, who did my MOTs, and they said it wouldn't fail. In fact it passed at least two more. So, ask an MOT test station for their opinion.0

Firstly put it for the MOT its not the end of the world if it fails.
The pass or fail is one mans opinion on the day.
Would having shorter wiper blades take the problem area out of the swept area? I have seen this done on a Bentley swap the wipers and oh the chip does not matter!0 -
As others have said, ask the MOT station. MOT stations don't replace glass - they get someone else to do it. Hence they have no vested interest financially, unlike Autoglass etc.0

Just ask the mot guy if the screen will fail the mot, 5 secs no charge, then decide .
A "scuff" whatever that is won't fail, a chip/crack will if in the central area, top to bottom,I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
