Well according to their website, they do 1Mb with no download limit and 2Mb with a 10G limit both for £19.97, so you have been put on the wrong package if you want unlimited. Presumably you will be charged more if/when you exceed the 10G limit!

Sometimes when you upgrade to or buy a 1Mb connection from an ISP. They give you a 2Mb connection, and then throttle your speed back on their own network to 1Mb. This saves them having to pay BTW another charge if you decide to go for a 2Mb connection in the future (they can upgrade your speed easily from their own network instead of BTW upgrading your exchange connection again and charging).

It may be the case that they haven't throttled your connection back yet. It is worth checking though (call/email them), they may have put you on the wrong package. If this is the case, you have a big difference in download limits.

  • i'd be tempted to keep quiet as long as you have a record of what you actually ordered so any extra charges can be challenged should they arise

Ah I see what you mean. If i ever order 2mb they can hook me up instantly as im already configured to recieve 2.2mb.

Just not sure weather to keep hush about it or not in the hope they have left me on 2.2mb uncapped by accident

You have a couple of options................

You could play dumb, and if Tesco bill you any extra for more than 10GB downloads. You have proof of the unlimited package you signed up for.

You could do the honest thing, and phone Tesco to ask why this is on the higher speed.

You may find that your speed drops anyway in a few days when Tescos put the 1Mb limit on your line from their own equipment. Your router/modem will still sync at 2Mbs (this will be the connection speed you are on up to the exchange), but your browsing speed will only be 1Mb.

However they don't seem to offer an uncapped 2Mb package, so what have you got?

When i connect it says i have a 2.2mb connection ( i also checked with an online adsl broadband test and get around a 2.05mb download speed )

I have no way of finding out whether its currently capped or not. Im sure if people who are capped can view their current monthly usage.

So it could be capped to a 10gb limit or it could be uncapped but they havent restricted my speed yet.

I think i will wait a few days and see what happens then go from there. But im gonna make the most of my 2.2mb connection while i got it ! :D
