Agios Nikolaos - day trips

Due to go to Agios Nikolaos next week, staying with Thomsons. However from past experience I know their day trips are robbery. Any suggestions of good locally bookable trips for myself and 20 year old daughter.

many thanks

  • A trip on the bus to Elounda should be a must for you its only a short ride and a great contrast to Aghios. You may be able to use public transport to get to other places nearby as well.
  • The boat trip to Spinalonga is a must do

You might be able to get a daytrip to Vai, there is a banana plantation there and a really nice beach. I've seen buses arriving when I've been there, but don't know where they came from.

There's also a monastery not to far away, but can't remember the name of it, sorry.

Have you considered hiring a car. It's a wonderful island with so much to see if you can get out and about.

  • Any other ideas please
  • spinalonga is a total must, the boat from elounda is ten euros, and you pay 1 or 2 euros when you get there, but it is fantastic. the happy train from elounda is also great, it goes through the little greek villages and you stop to look at an old raki and olive oil factory, karen the host is great and can answer everything, the happy train was 17 euros for the longer trip, but it really is worth it
