Temple Foods on the Minories is still there and doing cheap lunches. Had a lovely tuna wholewheat pasta salad from there yesterday having left my own packed lunch in the fridge at home! It's £2 for the pasta salads and you can get a good selection that are not covered in mayonaise which is great!

Sorry to hijack this thread somewhat, but I am in London for a week or so from the 7th Sept as my son is having an op in Great Ormond Street. Being from up north I havent a clue where anywhere is in London and was wondering if the Minories or Old Street are anywhere near as I dont fancy trawling round looking for places to eat as I will be on my own. Dont fancy surviving on Mc Donalds or Subways. Thanks I will be reading this thread with interest.:)

Old St is quite a way from the hospital. I know there is a Tesco (little one) near (turn right and walk across the streets to the main road where the buses are then turn left) a larger Sainsburys a bit further down (near the Central St Martins/Southampton road) and quite a few pubs both left and right on exiting. There is also a little mini highstreet of cafes and that community supermarket (run by the people who sign up and work there) also. Prices are not so low though.

As far as cheap greasy spoons go am not sure myself as the area itself is quite well-to-do.

Thank you Jennie, yes I saw the mini high street of cafes on our last day visit and yes it is quite a 'posh' area. Was hoping someone knew of a little gem of a place hidden in amongst it all, that was cheap and cheerful...not so much a greasy spoon as somewhere to have a sit and relax with some decent food that isnt overpriced iyswim.

Tesco and Sainburys being local to the hospital will be a godsend so thanks for that info too.

    xx

    Caro100,

In Brunswick Square (shopping centre near GOSH) you'll find a Waitrose, where some of the prepacked sandwiches are nice and cheap, and also a sit-down restaurant Chinese noodle place called the Hare & Tortoise (about a fiver for a massive plate of noodles?)

According to this map you're about 600 metres from Leicester Square.

I'd recommend Wong Kei's in China Town. It is cheap and you get very rude service which is good fun.

I hope the operation goes well!
