Hello,
I work in Central London.
I am trying to find really cheap lunches. So far the best I can find for under £2 are Subway, McDonalds and Tesco meal deal.
Other than making my own lunch, what else could I try?

Pack a lunch? Its always cheapest. If you take up mystery shopping- see the Up your income board- you could get free lunches quite ofen- but have to spend half an hour filling in an online form about them.0

If you buy 4 lunches in Pod, the 5th is free. It's about £5 for a rice and meat type meal, with good stuff in it
(no connection etc apart from my 5th free one today)0 -
Go to the supermarkets late (before closing ideally) and buy the reduced stuff for the next day?0

Lee beat me to it. Good advice.
Also, you're lucky for it to be £2. The cheapest lunch meal where I am is £3. I thought London was supposed to be more expensive?0 -

It is more expensive. But you can still get the Sub of the day for £1.99. tesco meal deal for £2. And MacDonalds by Liverpool street hand out £1.99 big mac and fries vouchers. You can also get similar vouchers in the metro about once a fortnight.0 -
I'll have to look into that... I take my lunches to work with me now, but sometimes I forget/haven't done the shopping, etc and I'm forced to eat out.
Before I took lunches with me, I had no idea what I was eating. Did you know there are 480 calories in a Tuna Crunch?!
Popping into the supermarket on the way home from work may land you with some reduced sandwiches they are trying to clear.0 -
I don't count calories. But I did notice that a sandwich I had the other day had 35% of my daily saturated fat allowance!0

I just remembered that Temples on Minories used to be good for cheap stuff, but I have not been for years, and don't really get the chance to wonder that way anymore. Has anyone here been there recently?0

Maybe make your lunch 3 days a week (or 4) and eat out the other day? its just so much cheaper and you don't have to queue or worry about chosing what you want beforehand. I'd also go as far to say it would help your waistline (if thats an issue) as shops tend to add fat and salt and sugar to compete with each other on taste. This can even mean your left feeling hungry within 1-2 hours of eathing when infact you have had more then enough to eat from an energy requirement point of view.
If you ate packed lunches for 4 days of the week, think how much you could treat yourself to on the 5th day.0 -
I work by Old Street (too far for you?) and there's 2 proper greasy spoon cafe type places near. One on Pitfield Street the other on Holywell lane. You'll always get a sandwich there for under 2 quid. Also the cornerstone food hall on Old street just west of the roundabout. I had a sausage sandwich from there yesterday that cost me £2.0
