I have been tearing my hair out over a problem I am having with trying to create an ebook cover in Word. I have all the text, but want to create a front cover with a black background, so that it does not have the default white page background of the interior of the ebook. How do I do this? I mean, do I create a Photoshop JPG the same size as the page of my ebook cover, then just paste it into the Word doc? I want to get the cover right so that it prints out okay in PDF.
Incidentally, I also have this problem using Open Office. I mean, I have created the ebook's cover page with black background and images, but when I try to insert a new page break to start writing the interior pages of the book, it still displays the black background of the front cover!
So please can somebody tell me how to solve this most annoyingly tedious problem?

I've tried having a play quickly myself, with no luck.
Couple of suggestions in the above link is to either draw a rectangle in word, then fill it with a colour. Then choose "print background text and images" when printing the document. Alternatively, changing the first page to a different one.Owner of andrewhope.co.uk, hate cars and love them

Also depends on how you create the PDF. If you have Adobe Acrobat, simply make the cover a separate PDF file to the main book then insert the cover PDF into the book PDF file.0

Hello,
Can you tell us how you have changed the page colour? If you have just clicked Format -> Background and chosen a colour this only changes how it is displayed on-screen. It isn't actually making the page black (if you click print preview you'll see it's still a white page)
Personally I would create a big black rectangle, or a text box and click the fill colour to black and the text color to white.
