Want To Switch From British Gas To E-On
Hi, I was just wondering if anyone had any serious complaints for E-On. I've been with British Gas for probbally 10 years (I think I was with E-On at one point not sure though) but I'm considering switching to E-On after uSwitch told me I could save around £600 a year compared to British Gas.
Should I go ahead and O.K this with the wife, or just stick it out with BG?

I've been with E.On for 12 months now and have to say that I'm a happy customer. Not had any issues at all, my bills have been much better than the dreadful Npower that they replaced and their online energy usage monitoring is quite handy too, you can see at a glance how much your usage of electricity and gas is increasing / decreasing month by month and once you have been with them 12 months you can compare your energy usage now to how it was 12 months ago and see if you're doing better or worse.
They are also offering a free energy monitor device which allows you to see at a glance how much electricity you are burning at any given moment and along with the software supplied you can track your usage of electricity. Now before people jump in and say that the monitor is worthless / useless I've actually found it quite handy to see that I am burning worthless sums of money by leaving the TV on when I'm not actually watching it. Common sense I know but the monitor does indeed help to hammer home to me some of the wasteage that I can address. It's not the be all and end all of gadgets but it's free and certainly for me, it helps.
Regardless of the free energy monitor I find that managing my account and entering readings online is a breeze and I have not yet had any shocks or huge direct debit rises and even after 12 months I am £30pm better off than I was with Npower. Others may have other views and experiences but that is mine.

Hey, thanks for that. I'm just looking to save, save and save! I'm getting broker and broker and bills aren't helping me any to recover.
Just a few questions... I've only done this once, some time ago and forgot how it happens. How do I switch over supplier? Do I call up the supplier I want to switch to and they do it all for me?
Thanks.0 -
I did mine via the energy comparison site. I can't even remember which it was now but probably uSwitch. Plugged the numbers in, followed the links, signed up, followed the instructions from the emails that I eventually got from E.On and somehow it all just worked. Switch over took about 6 weeks and was completely painless! Got my refund from Npower for overpayments and the direct debits to E.On started as promised and I managed to setup my online account with E.On effortlessly following the email trail that I had started by switching.
As I said, this is only my personal experience and I'm sure there's 101 horror stories about switching and to be honest I was expecting trouble but it just never came.
I've only once had to call E.On and that was to chase up my free energy monitor (which was massively oversubscribed and consequently delayed) but even that was answered quickly.
The latest British Gas advert actually puts me off trying them. The promise of "If we don't answer your call, we will call you back" is enough to put me off them forever and whoever thought that BG would gain customers with that advert should be fired! I want to phone my energy company at my convenience and receive an answer, I have no desire to wait in all day hoping for a return call because nobody was there to answer it in the first place!
Total own goal by BG in my opinion and the reason why they are now 2nd to top in my (s)hitlist (Npower being top). It's rare that I have to phone to query stuff about my gas or electricity supply but a company advertising the fact that they will likely not answer that call (promising to call back) has put me right off anything that BG may have to offer.0 -
Don't switch by calling anyone! Get your best tariff from one of the comparison sites (making sure you use your annual consumption figures, not your monthly DD amounts), then switch using a cashback site (Quidco or topcashback). That way you get to keep the commission for yourself. The new supplier then handles the switch for you, no need to contact the old supplier.
Quidco currently give up to £100 for dual fuel and up to £50 for single fuel if you switch to Eon.
However, I find your estimated saving of £600pa very optimistic-is this for a dual fuel switch in a large property, and entering annual consumption figs?No free lunch, and no free laptop

£600??
On what size of annual bill? £8,000?
For my area someone on the UK average consumption will pay £94 less with EON than BG(according to uswitch)
My bad, I put in my 3 month bill, and it asked for a monthly price. I entered it correct and it said I'd save £205 with npower or 154 with Eon. Should I switch to nPower?0 -
Call your supplier and get the last 12 months usage then check again on the comparison website. Three months is not enough to compare . Don't put in what you pay but how many units you used.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Hi Marv,
I have been using Eon for the past year, and I have to say, they are the best energy provider I have had.
Over the years I have switched suppliers at least 6 times.
I have had BG,Powergen, Scottish Power, Npower, BG again and now Eon.
I went with the cheapest option at the time through the comparison websites, and Eon were at the time and still are the cheapest in my area ( Central Scotland).
I was on fixonline 7 , I then changed it to fixonline 8 as it was cheaper.
They don't do fixonline 8 any more, but still have the cheapest in Saveonline 3 in my area.
Their website is good for watching your energy usage as you can enter your meter readings every month to see how much you have used compared with last year.
They have good freebies - Showersave, energy fit kit ( still waiting on mine) , cheap energy saving light bulbs, and I have also signed up for new loft insulation ( fitted for £100)
Go through Quidco or Topcashback for £100 back too!!
No brainer if you ask me

Hi, I was just wondering if anyone had any serious complaints for E-On. ...
I do! Mostly caused by the most unjustified and inappropriate threats they made after I decided to leave them for a better deal elsewhere.
However, if you search this forum, you'll probably find complaints about every supplier and an equal number of posts of support for those same suppliers by others.
Decide what is most important to you and do your own research.
Afterall, it's the same stuff coming through the same pipes/wires. So it's down to price and /or customer service. But if you never have any issues you may end up paying for customer service you never use. But then again, if you do need help, good customer service may be invaluable to you.
I would however suggest you check out individual suppliers for gas and electricity as dual supply is on many occassions not the cheapest solution even if they do offer a discount for dual fuel."Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100
