Hi there, anyone know of cheap insurers for japenese imports and high performance (UK) models? Particularly with 0 years NCB?

Googling has not been too helpful, spent a lot of time tonight getting nowhere, and if I give my details to anymore web forms my postie isn't going to be happy with the influx of junk mail... :D so wondered if anyone has any experience of which companies are best?

Checked out a couple of those new multi car policies so I can use my NCB for the new cars too but they all seem a bit steep, plus I'm already 9 months into my current policy so will lose that NC if I cancel....

Any tips? :)

Sorry its not very clear :o I currently have a UK people carrier which is going this week, insured with swinton with 4+ yrs NC. Switching that for a Jap model people carrier.

Also now got a Mercedes. Thought it would be best to put this on my Swinton & start a new policy with the people carrier but the comparison websites are not liking the number plate & then when I type in details manually the prices are mad.... don't know why- its the same model as my UK one really just with a few more electrics etc

What you need to do is see a broker (Not Swintons) preferably one who specialises in import cars.

They will probably use the no claims bonus on the Jap import as this is the higher rated car, then on the mercedes (You will probably need to cancel the Swinton policy and they have heft fees) they should be able to get an Insurer to offer a mirrored (They give you the same aount of ncd as the first car) no claims bonus on the mercedes (Assuming you dont have to many claims or convictions).

It is very difficult to do this on the jap import so they will probably suggest what I have suggested.

I would not waste your time on comparison sites etc just ring a broker who knows what they are doing and they can work the figures out, take into account the fee Swintons will charge

Or alternatively speak to Swinton's first, and see if they can arrange a policy that mirrors your no claims, and avoid any fee at all.
    My local Swinton's are excellent.

I have a complicated car insurance requirement due to A/ my job, B/ a foreign license holding wife to insure and C/ one of my cars being a Japanese import.

I have given up with the useless websites and found a broker through an ad in a classic car magazine. Not only have they saved me a small fortune on my car insurance, they also saved me a great deal of money on my (also quite complicated) house insurance - which was a great surprise as I thought I had previously done quite well.

If you're interested in their details, please PM me.

The point is - websites are probably OK of all you do is hover around the average. If you don't, they're atrocious. Um... that and I need a less complicated, life, I suppose!
  • Does your import people carrier have glass in the roof a bit more than a standard sun roof? If it does, make sure its covered through glass on the policy. Theres a thread somewhere on here about imports possibly being written off due to smashed roof glass.

Try A-Plan on 01638874646 or Sky Insurance 08701121759, I've used both over the last 4-5 years and they've always been competitively priced and happy with imported cars and long modification lists. :D

I think they (2 of them) are standard kind of size? Its quite old :o not like those new cars advertised with panaramic roofs or anything.... Will check it out though thanks :)
