You can get them if you're under 25, over 16, disabled or have child/ren.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I'm not either of those I was just wondering why, if I was 25 I'd get working tax credits but because I'm not, I don't. I still pay for all the same things i'd pay for if I was 25, I was just wondering if there was any particular reason for it

An interesting question that I would also like to know the answer to!0

The main reason must be the extra cost if the gov had to start paying out tax credits to under 25's as well! I believe it is unfair though as a 21 year old could just have the same outgoings as a 25 year old (rent, council tax etc) Not all under 25 year old's still live at home, all my friends had moved out of home at around 21 years. I don't think tax credits will be around much longer anyway.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

I think you will find the reason is that the assumption is being made that under 25 with no children nor disabled that you will be one of the following:
i) still living at home
ii) still in education so a student
iii) be an apprentice -often on a low wage
iv) in a low paid job
Or all four.

There has to be a cut off point somewhere and at the moment it's 25 i, the same age as for the change from shared accommodation to 1 bed accommodation with LHA.0
