I am wondering if anyone can shed any light on my problem..
I live in a 3 bed house on my own with oil heating and gas cooking but my electricity usage goes up and down like a yo yo. I have bought a "smart meter" and an electircity consumption checker which seem to tally with each other but not always the meter. I have had the meter checked and it seems to be fine according to e on but they said that in the last period i was using 17 day and 4 night units in 24hrs. But since I have been checking it it has come out at between 6 and 10 total units in 24hrs.. This usage goes up and down each quarter but my lifestyle doesnt ...
Has anyone any suggestions?????
They seem to think that because I keep reptiles that this is the problem but a) they are only using normal light bulbs and small watt heat mats which have been checked and
b) they use a constant amount.
Even weirder is that on Tuesday nights my usage varies a LOT up to 20 units some times according to the meters but only on Tues.....I dont do anything different.

Hi thehomehelps
Have you spoken with our Energy Efficiency team?
They specialise in helping customers understand their usage and will be happy to talk to you.
Have a list of your appliances to hand and give them a call.
A good way to monitor your usage is through the meter. Try turning things on/off and see what the impact is on your meter.
Hope this helps a little. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be glad to help.

Hi thehomehelps - Couple of things about your post that are a puzzle
You quote Day & Night meter reads which suggests you have an ECO7 meter that would supply Storage Radiator Heating and tank of Hot water overnight, yet you also mention your Oil Fired Central Heating.
ECO7 meter tariffs offer cheap overnight Elec for the heating & Hot water ,but, all the power you use during the day is charged on a Premium rate that can be up to 50% more expensive than a Standard meter - If you do have oil fired heating and hotwater, you should really be supplied thro' a Standard meter - Some suppliers will make this change by simply adding both readings together and charging them on a Standard meter tariff, whilst others insist on changeing the meter
Yes, your daily consumption figures are strange. As a sole occupier I would expect your daily use to be around 6 - 8 Kw in Summer, obviously keeping the reptiles warm adds to this, but to more than double it seems a bit far.
I think you buy a 'Wattmeter' (£10 ?). These plug into the wall socket, the appliance plugs in to it and the screen will show how many Kw the appliance is using from moment to moment
Also, accepting what the supplier says about your consumption should not be accepted at at face value, always do your own homework on past bills to establish your annual consumption and then apply the figures to the tariff you are on to determine the value of your D/D payments
As for Tuesdays power surge, I can only think you have something in the house on a once in 7 days timer, but can't think of any reason why there should be one0
