The cheapest quote ive had is £145 fitted. Is it worth spending this on a 3 year old laptop or should i just put the money towards a new one? Its used by my DD who mainly uses MSN and internet browsing and music? Thanks...

What do you mean by 'blown'? Inverter failed?
It's not too tricky to change it yourself.

it was dropped and now the screen has all liquid shapes (does that make sense?) You can see the screen in some parts but most of it is just odd colours and shapes.

You need a new screen. Post the make and model, ebay is a good starting point for replacement. As an example my Toshiba is straight forward to replace other types may be easy/difficult.

Ive had a good old search and the cheapset on ebay is £112 but then Ive got to pay £30 to get it fitted. Or my local repair shop will do it all for £145.
Im just not sure whether to spend the money on it as its 3 years old (and is running really slow- needs a good service i think - more money!) or should i just buy a new one.
    Thanks for replies..

Need to Know the make and model before answering your question as some 3year old laptops perform just as well as current models.
£112 sounds alot of money for a replacment screen as I have just replaced one in a Hp pavillion and a Toshiba widescreen and the more expensive one was £74 delivered. As for the actual replacment it is very straightforward and the guy that I purchased from even had instructions with diagrams on how to do it on his Ebay page.

My advice is keep looking on Ebay and also try Googling as some of the companys that do replacment screens are not to expensive.

    Cheers Sarge.

Wow yes you are correct this is not a cheap screen but looking at the specs of the laptop I would get a new screen. Im guessing the laptop is running Vista? If so and you could afford it I would reformat the laptop with a copy of windows 7 and this would then give your machine a new lease of life.

To sum it up your laptop in my opinion is worth the repair. However there are some other avenues open to you in this situation, like putting it on ebay and stating it needs a new screen as you would be surprised what it could make. Then put some money to it and buy a new one. Its a bit of a gamble but worth a try if you dont want to repair the laptop.

    Cheers Sarge:)

Ok I think I will replace the screen then. Will also consider windows 7, depending on cost. Thanks for all the advice :)
