Of all the cheek! (Virgin Credit Card)

  • Typical MBNA (they run the Virgin credit card) dirty trick. They do not even have the decency to mug you face to face, they sneak up behind you punch you in the back and steal your wallet. Rubbish company better off as far away as possible from them.

I am really glad you did not spend on the card, that was a very good decisision. You have save yourself a fortune. Tell them to get stuff MBNA are pond life.

Thanks. I know, I'm so glad I didn't spend on it either :j
What really annoys me is that people who aren't as credit-card savvy, or people in a poor financial situation who can't afford to opt out or don't have the option to do a balance transfer, would just put up with this kind of thing and let them get away with it. Again, another example of legitimate money-lenders fleecing those who are struggling. It also annoys me that I have been a "model customer" in the sense that I have never missed payments and have kept a reasonable balance - clearly, this is not enough for these unscrupulous idiots and they seem to think that I'm not giving them enough of my money.

First thing tomorrow I am going to ring them and opt out - and I am going to tell them exactly what I think about them! Then as soon as my 0% Barclaycard comes I'm going to transfer the remaining balance and they can well and truly get stuffed - and I'll be letting as many people as possible know what crooks they are :D

Thanks for the advice everyone :A

I think MBNA are wonderful, had a large credit card debt and paying about £70 interest a month. They accepted me for one of their cards at 0% for 16 months and I managed to save hundereds in interest payments.

Big up to MBNA I say, they have help me to secure a far better financial future than I could even imagine 2 years ago.

    Cheers MBNA :money:

One would think they were making a fair bit of money at the pre-existing 16.6% rate.

Anywhere near as much as they have made from offer 0% for months on end ?

At the end of the day, OP has saved interest and should be thankful they have.

They are doing the right thing by transferring away and why not, save even more money that way, afterall why pay interest at 16.9% when they don't have to.

Of course to transfer away before the 0% run out would have been the best bet, then it wouldn't matter if Virgin upped it to 50% APR.

Virgin (MBNA) have helped out the OP in the past, but here is the OP still slagging them off.

As I've said Virgin have helped me out grately, if they want to up my APR to 50% then so be, I'll just make sure I don't bother using the card, but you won't see me on here, bleating about it, say nasty Virgin this, nasty Virgin that.

But do you really think that credit card companies offer 0% balance transfers to be "helpful"? Of course they don't - they do it knowing full well that most people won't have paid off their balance by the time that the 0% expires and also that a lot of people will have spent - and will continue to spend - on the card.

I'm not saying that the 0% wasn't useful at the time, I'm just angry about the fact that they increase the APR to a ridiculous amount less than 7 months after the 0% has ended. It almost makes taking out the 0% pointless in the first place if you've got a way to go before your balance is cleared. Besides, like I said before, I wouldn't have been so irked if it was an increase of just one or two per cent, but over eight percent is just terrible. 24.9% for a credit card is a joke. If I wanted a store card, I'd get one.

How dare a BUSINESS try to make a PROFIT for providing a service to a customer? I'm shocked.

Irrelevant. You suggested this rise was necessary for them to make their money back, I pointed out it is not.

At the end of the day, OP has saved interest and should be thankful they have.

I'm not sure that your gratitude to MBNA is any less nauseating that the OP's indignation with them.

They do indeed offer some unbeatable offers, which I have taken advantage of too, but one doesn't so much do business with MBNA as do battle with them. Their tempter deals are great for the financially savvy, but they ruthlessly milk those who are less clued-up.

They have to make money somewhere, think they give some great offers that you will struggle to find. Most are 16%

Yes, evidently the fact that ill informed customers even get cards from these lenders speaks volumes. (About the lender, too). I am oppossed to idiots who can't keep up on the laws protecting them from even having a card. If they are igonorant, well that's tough luck. I don't even agree with 09 act that allows folks (like you) to weasel out with an option to keep the rate as is, if a lender wishes to jack it up.
It also annoys me that I have been a "model customer" in the sense that I have never missed payments and have kept a reasonable balance - clearly, this is not enough for these unscrupulous idiots and they seem to think that I'm not giving them enough of my money.

You apparently didn't think of this when you borrowed their money? Or you did, but thought you could dictate the terms did you?

Excellent, i always love it when Virgin employees get a mouthful.
Then as soon as my 0% Barclaycard comes I'm going to transfer the remaining balance and they can well and truly get stuffed - and I'll be letting as many people as possible know what crooks they are :D

Oh lawd. The difference between Barclaycard and Virgin is the difference between calling the Devil "Satan" or "Lucipher".

That's not really fair, How would you like it if i came into your place of work and shouted at you for something you have no control over and is not your fault?

Well if i was incompetant at providing you the service, i would fully expect it...and accept it too.

Presumably of its not their fault, they shouldn't just spout the company line.

But i guess that further excels their ability as a company so Branson isn't entirely an idiot.

If its not their fault, well...anyhow point made and noted.
