Unemployment question for my friend

My mate was laid off work last week and is with Virgin for phone, tv and broadband services.

It looks like he will struggle to keep paying for these services for a while but he heard rumblings that if you call them and say you are unemployed, they will reduce your bill.

Is this true?

Any help would be appreciated!

Highly unlikely, if they did that, every Tom, !!!!!! and Harriet would be ringing them.

It is true they can reduce your package to the bare minimum but that'll only save money if you are on a top package. Otherwise it's a matter of letting the contract run it's course then shopping around for a better deal.

:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • Thanks for the replies, it's just that he said that he has a friend who called them and got his bills reduced by half for this reason.

    I don't buy it either.

OTOH, what has he got to lose?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
