    I agree however they could argue that due to the fact the car is competitively priced (& it is) it's an add on top of the cost. Just been on the website & they dress it up as this, notice they don't use the term 'HPI' ;)

    Vehicle Status Verification Fee of £98.38, which covers the provenance checks required for us to authenticate that there are no finance company, insurance company or police records on your chosen vehicle.

    They're basically charging you to do a check to see if they could be held liable, should there be a problem?

    The big chains automatically HPI any car taken in part ex or stock anyway as they have online contract agreements with the HPI company's

    It will be HPI'd on the computer automatically by now, all he has to do is turn the screen around or print it out. (£99 for hitting print)

    Its is a dealers ploy to make an extra £99 on the deal.
