Incapacity + income support as top up???

I will try to be as brief as possible.
Hubby has been receiving incapacity benefits for about 3 years now so we are on the long term rate
We were receiving extra money for our son who was at college, but who now has a job and has left home
I would like to know if hubby can claim for me as i cannot work either due to back problems and arthritis
He has a form to fill in for income support but just wondering if it is a waste of time or if they will transfer us to income support only
thanking you in advance
ps we have tried for DLA 3 times now and been rejected just in case anyone is wondering

  • IB & DLA are not my main areas, so hopefully others can fill in any gaps.

Does the IB already include an addition for a partner? If so, it will remain unchanged.

As for DLA, did you get help to complete the form(s) from an advisor? The completion of the forms is critical - many of the questions are ambiguous and can, at first glance, lead to giving answers that could, perfectly legitimately, be answered differently.

It isn't quite clear from your post whether you have done, but you can BOTH apply for DLA.

NB: If you are on HB/CTB, you should notify your local council that your son has moved out.

Complete and return the IS claim form A1 asap and let JCP decide if you are entitled to IS. JCP will take into account your household income including the IB to make a decision.

you need to ring the claims line as most offices dont give out claim forms any more-0800 055 66 88, you need both NI numbers, details of income, rent recent employment etc and they will take the claimover the phone

The OP says they have the claim form A1 so they don't need to claim via phone.
