Termination of Contract?

Hello,
I was wondering if somone might be able to give me a little advise?
I have recently moved into a flat on a 1 year shorthold tenancy agreement.
On moving in we have now just discovered that the flat below us is a bit of a drugs den and was in fact raided by police a few weeks before we first viewed the property (another neighbour has filled us in on the history) our main problem is the noise.... music till late etc...
We asked about the neighbours with the previous tenant on our initial viewing and she mentioned there were teachers downstairs... i know you can't really rely on this, but how can you ever really know till you live somewhere. Anyway 6 weeks in to our contract and it intolerable and we just want to move.... do we have any recorse for early termination?
Any help or advise appreciated
(Just to add, this is a pretty expensive flat in what seems a quite nice street and was marketed as a 'luxury' flat - which it is, appart from the obvious problems)

Unless there is a break-clause in your rental agreement you will not be able to terminate it without your landlord's consent.0

So there really is little we can do?0

you have signed a legally binding document to pay the rent for the full period in your agreement... and your LL has agreed to provide you with a property for that term. Neighbours, good or bad, are nothing to do with the LL.
IF a LL agrees to an early termination s/he is perfectly legally entitled to claim marketing costs for a new tenant from you, AND rent until such time as he finds a new tenant.
If he had wanted to kick you out just a few months into your contract.. how would you feel ?
with regard to noise.. if it is excessive and going on at unsocial hours, then you need to contact Environmental Health at your local council offices0
