Whilst my feeling about kenshaz are well known, I do see his point. I've got Martin's book (which led me to this site). Martin's arguement, regarding using one or more broker's to get the best advice before going to L&C to complete is a reasonably sound money saving tactic. If I can get several brokers - who would charge me if I completed with them - to do the work, pick out the best mortgage for me, then I run to L&C to complete for free with them...yeah, it does save you money. (BTW - on my copy of Martin's book this advice starts at p.269 - just in case other have a different printing).

However, I can also understand the reaction from brokers who have their time stolen from them. I haven't read any "reaction" thread on the topic before MM - before my time perhaps? - but my immediate thought is one of moral grounds. Is it morally sound to get one over a small local broker?

Martin's philosophy is one of "get one back over the big companies that are screwing you over" - I wouldn't include small brokers in that. Bigger brokers? Yes.... but if the "bigger broker" is also fee's free - which can also apply to small one-man (or woman!) broker firms - you gain nothing from this tactic.

To me this is all about morality - I wouldn't like to do 10 hours work for someone only for them to take my work without me getting paid for it! Do unto others and all that...:D
I never quoted or suggested using any small local brokers ,the websites and telephone numbers are for large companies, which is within Martin's philosophy..So I am confused about your stance.I can understand the brokers points of view, not quite sure why you have decided to intercede in this debate, taking the moral high ground ,but not quite getting it right.

Yes, but Martin's idea, which you quoted, involves going to 3-4 brokers, using them to identify the best mortgage product before placing said product with L&C. However, it would be very easy for many to misinterpret your post as going to ANY broker - big firm or one-man operation - to do this. My "moral high ground" is rather one of caution - Martin's philosophy is one of "getting one over on the big firms who are trying to screw you over". I agree that the idea is a valid money saving one - indeed, I agreed with you in the post that you've quoted - however, it could be conceived that you meant ANY broker, which, as you've said above, was not your intention.

However as for you "not quite sure why you have decided to intercede in this debate"...who do you think you are!!!! Just 3 days ago you said this:

Quite frankly that is small minded. They are your words, you said them (OK - typed them!) yet you cannot be held responsible for them? I honestly cannot decide if you're an Internet Troll, posting thinly veiled attacks on anyone who's posts you disagree with, or simply incapable of understanding that other forum users will react to anything that you "say" which is insensitive.

Should I have considered your feelings and your reactions before I posted this? Yes - indeed I am very wary of the fact that I am only adding fuel to the fire - not to mention offending you. If I have offended you then I apologise as that is not my intention. I want you to understand how some - not all - of your posts cause offence. I hope that I have suceeded.
Never attach your ego to your position....
