reserve prices

I've got my heart set on a pair of boots on Ebay but they have a reserve set on them and i think they could be quite expensive, is it really naughty to ask the seller what kind of ballpark figure the reserve is as if they are over a certain amount then i will have to forget about it and find another pair....if its really rude and naughty then i won't ask...but was going to ask if the reserve was over £50 or £70 etc.....

thank you!:)

  • Well if it helps you the minimum you can set a reserve for is £50.

I'd just stick my max bid in anyway, if they don't make the reserve then the seller could still decide to offer them to you.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

Personally, I wouldn't contact the seller. The above advice to just put in a realistic bid is sound. I would bid just before the end of the auction, as by then, the item may have exceeded the reserve price and you will be able to see what it was.

If the item doesn't sell, the chances are, it will be relisted with a lower reserve or even without a reserve. But if the seller is aware that a potential buyer wants the item, they are likely to keep a high price and high reserve price in place.

Work out what you think they're worth and what you're willing to pay, and don't go over this amount. If the reserve isn't met yet, then see it as fate telling you that they're not the boots for you!

(I am always baffled how people can buy shoes/boots online, given each brand and style seem to have a different fit!)

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

If you're familiar with a particular brand then it's easier. I found an M&S shoe which my DD loves - as her feet are still growing I just keep a look out for the next size up. They always fit perfectly.

o.k thanks!for some reason i could've sworn you could set your reserve at any price...i can't understand why if people know the reserve for those boots is £50 they are still bidding at a couple of quid?

A lot of people , like you , haven't realised the reserve was set to a £50 minimum several years ago.

I personally hate listings with reserves.
Why doesn't the seller just start it at the minimum price they are willing to accept?
If my memory serves me right aren't sellers still liable for a reserve listing fee even if it doesn't sell - so the real winners are Ebay!

You are right, selling with a reserve is extremely expensive

For some people, like me - it's the only place I can get shoes!

Unfortunately, I am tall (5'11) and have very long feet. Most shops stop at an 8, and some have a 9. I'm a 10. :(

Getting shoes is a complete and utter nightmare. Evans do go up to 10 online, but their shoes are for people with wider feet as well - but mine are just long, not particularly wide, so their shoes often fall off me.

I manage to get the occasional pair on ebay, or shops like tallgirls.co.uk.

I wish to god I was lucky enough to be able to walk into a shop and buy a pair of shoes. It costs me a fortune having to buy them online, with postage and then most don't fit brilliantly, so I end up with blisters all over.

If you have one of these shops near you:

    http://www.parmarshoes.co.uk/

They stock some sizes up to a 10, but they tend to be the more 'fetish' style, high heels, platforms gothy type.
