PayPal v Egg Pay

As an ebayer, I use PayPal all the time to collect money from my sales. There is obviously a charge associated with each transaction.

I'm a member of RPoints also and when I was looking to redeem points I noticed that payment could be through Egg Pay as well as PayPal.

Looking at Egg Pay - there doesn't appear to be any charges involved and it offers 2.75% pa gross/AER as well.

Anybody have experience of this system and is it any good?

Is there any downside in using this in comparison to PayPal? For instance, would I be right in assuming that payments can only be made from debit cards rather than debit cards?

Cheers.

and search on google for paypal and scam and fraud and any words like that

trouble is, not so many people will use egg pay

with paypal though, you're MUCH safer sending or receiving cash in the post, its less likley to go missing

Egg pay isn't from debit cards as far as I know - you transfer it in direct from bank account to bank account. I love it - free, and yes, you get interest while you're in credit (not a great amount, but you don't get any in paypal while you're waiting to amass £50 so you avoid paying 25p for your own money). And you aren't at the risk of losing your money if anything goes wrong - see the aforementioned websites.....

But how you persuade people they really want to use it is beyond me. Noone I've sold to has ever wanted to use it. Good luck there...!

Edited to add: sorry, I'm going crazy, of course you can use debit cards to fund the original payment. You can also use whatever's in your savings account.

EggPay is absolutely brilliant, no doubt the best online payment service around. No fees, and they pay you interest on the balance, UNBEATABLE!

Yet most people still use paypal as they don't know better.. and eBay doesn't help by advertising it everywhere!

Ebay push Paypal so hard because they own it. Simple as that. They took it over last year some time.

Many sellers offer 4-6 ways of paying for an auction, but I bet the overwhelming majority of instant payers use Paypal because of the way it is linked into the ebay system. Which is exactly what ebay want.

If anyone knows of a reliable service that I could use instead of paypal for international purchases I'd love to know about it.

For buying, I have no problem recommending Paypal. It's been reliable for me and is relatively secure as you can do a chargeback in a worst case scenario to get your money back from a dodgy seller.

For selling it's not as good primarily for the reason stated above; anyone can perform a chargeback provided they paid by credit card, even if the seller supplied the goods correctly and in good time. And no point asking Paypal to help - they don't want to hear it. Also the fees to receive funds are a joke, of course :)
